The Heart of Santa Rosa is amid an exciting period of revitalization, with several new developments. Among these is the recent completion of the Courthouse Square reunification and the Hotel E on the Square. Courthouse Square is a center of social and cultural activity, special events and leisure lunches year-round.

The SMART Train serves Downtown Santa Rosa and makes multiple stops each day at the Railroad Square Depot, just a short distance from Courthouse Square. The SMART Train travels to and from San Rafael in Marin County, with many stops along the way including Novato, Petaluma, Rohnert Park to the south and the Sonoma County Airport area to the north. Soon the train will travel further north to Windsor and eventually Healdsburg and Coverdale.

One unique feature of Downtown Santa Rosa is the Prince Memorial Greenway along Santa Rosa Creek, which includes a pedestrian and bicycle path connecting Santa Rosa to the town of Sebastopol 7 miles to the west. The Greenway provides cyclists and walkers access to daytime exercise along the creek.

The center of Sonoma County government and economic activity is Santa Rosa, the County seat. Santa Rosa and Sonoma County are the largest business, retail, medical centers between San Francisco and Portland, OR. The County of Sonoma has a population of approximately 500,000 and Santa Rosa with 177,000 residents is the 5th largest city in the Bay Area and largest in Sonoma County.

Sonoma County has over 270 wineries in 16 American Viticultural Areas (AVA’s) nestled between the Mayacamas Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Sonoma County residents and visitors appreciate the Mediterranean climate, exceptional air quality and four distinct weather seasons. Sonoma County is bordered on the south by Marin County, to the east by Napa County and to the north by Mendocino County.
